A short walk September 3

Today we had a small repast at our Albergue before heading out on our last leg in Portugal. Here is our Albergue as I left this morning.

Onward towards Spain! We passed through several small, peaceful towns and saw very few pilgrims.

I’m sorry to say that I did not get a picture of the brother and sister that had set up a welcome station not far from their home about 5 km south of the border. She is in her 5th year of college in Budapest and he is going into 7th grade this year. I can’t remember her name — something like Annalise and his is Simon. They had coffee, bananas, cake and apples for which they only asked for a donation. It was really nice to chat with them. She is studying international relations. I told her that that was what we were doing!

We walked on towards Valenca which is the last city in Portugal.

We walked through a medieval fort which now contains a myriad of tourist trap shops. Wish I had more room in my pack😩. On the other side of the fort we found the bridge over the river Mino or Minho  (Portuguese spelling) and upon crossing it, we entered Spain.

Here we are in Galicia! 99.89 km from Santiago!

We have some a long way!

We elected to spend the next 2 nights in Tui in Spain and we rented a 2 bedroom apartment right downtown. It was a nice surprise when we arrived here. After some fumbling around we managed to get into the WiFi. This had become necessary as both David and I have run out of data. We won’t be able to get any tomorrow because it is Sunday but first thing Monday on our way out of town we will hit the Orange store.

How funny we are to have become so dependent on our cell phones. There are no maps without them. What a scary feeling to be left with no brain …..

Going to find a tapas place to eat tonight.
