I’m up and ready Sept 7

But we don’t want to leave til late because we have chosen to walk only about 10 km today. We have lots of time and want to get off the big stage route.

Here was my room last night

By the time I got here yesterday there was only the top bunk left. Grrrrrr. 2 smokers in the room and even though they don’t smoke inside the air was tainted by it. Apparently I was the only one who wanted to sleep with the window cracked open because when I did so, someone closed it😔. The only thing good about it was we were all women. 2 from Italy and 1 from Argentina. Fortunately we were located near the toilet so that when I had to climb down 3 times, I didn’t have far to walk.

Dave, Kate and I had a nice dinner last night and when we returned it was 10 pm. They don’t serve dinner until 8 pm here. Everyone in my room were bedded down and the lights were out. The room was so muggy from all of the carbon dioxide spewing out it was very difficult to breathe. Can you tell I didn’t get much sleep?

Our walk today was a short one. We have a lot of time to take it easy before we fly home. There are many pilgrims on the trail and they all seem to be in a hurry. It started pouring at one point and a herd of them rushed past us, cloaked as we were in rain ponchos. I’m not sure why they were rushing. It didn’t slow down the rain.

We made it to our destination Ponte Sampio which is an inlet on the bay of San Simon, off the coast of the Atlantic.

And after only a bit of off course hiking we found our Hotel Las Islas which turns out to be the Tajmahal compared to last nights digs. A bay front room with bath at a remarkable price of €33. Did I mention the view from my bed?

We cleaned up and headed out for a bit to drink and eat. The barmaid messed up when Kate ordered wine. She poured white instead of tinto.  So I offered to have both whites. Waste not, want not.

I’m finishing this post Thursday morning Sept 8. The window outside shows what looks like the beginning of a day like yesterday. Cloudy and rainy. We are waiting until 9 am to enjoy the €5 breakfast then we will gather our things and press on a short walk to Pontevedra where we have booked our next accommodation.

Oh, I hear that there is a hurricane headed this way ….
