Rain😩. Sept 5
Sorry only a couple of pictures today. Why?
1. We had rain and had to wear the “sweat tent” ponchos that made it really impossible to dig out my camera; and
2. My walking partners were hauling ass too fast for me to pause and frame a photo.
Yes, the dreaded rain spell has arrived. We anticipate 7 days of on and off rain.
We left Tui after purchasing a new SIM card from the Orange office around the block. Good to be able to navigate again.
Lunchtime arrived and we were looking for a dry place to eat our leftovers when we ran across this small Albergue in the middle of nowhere owned and run by a fellow named Reese from Belgium. We asked if we could sit there, have a drink and eat our lunch. At first he refused saying that his place was a restaurant and why would we want to bring our own food to a restaurant? Good point. He relented eventually and eventually one of us did eat his food while Kate and I finished up out leftovers.
I can’t describe how funny this encounter was. You really had to be there. The neighbor Carlo who is a retired architect came over, sat down and chain smoked while drinking red wine with our host. We were also joined by a woman from Germany who was pushing her 9 month old in a stroller and yes, she was walking her camino. We were all crowding into this little covered area outside, stroller included. It was really comical. Like I said you had to be there.
Eventually I just had to get outta there and back on the road.
So we arrived in O Porrino at about 3:30 and located this small Albergue in the middle of town. Looking for a place to eat, we didn’t have to look too far as there was a bar/restaurant just across the street, next to the church. There we met two fun fellows. One from California and the other from New Zealand. Our common denominator was the English language.
It’s 7 am here and people are beginning to move about. I hear sleeping bag zippers and rustling backpacks. We will see what today brings….onward we must go
